Corning announced on Monday the new Gorilla Glass NBT designed specifically to help protect touch-enabled notebook displays from scratches and other damage that comes with everyday use.

Many of the high-end Smartphones have displays covered with tough glass that prevents them from tear and wear. Chances are that the display is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass.

Same goes for the new trend in touch enabled laptops and other devicesManufacturers are looking for ways to protect the touch screens from the constant and sometimes aggressive use of the touchscreen by users.

The notebook market has not been very receptive to Corning Glass covering of displays. Of course touch enabled devices have not been many. We have seen such produced and offered to the users by HP and Dell.

With the touch enabled notebooks gaining popularity especially with the introduction and capabilities of Windows 8 expectations are that almost all producers like Acer, Asus, Lenovo will be releasing more and more touch enabled notebooks.

And that means that the need for a strong and durable, scratch resistant touch enabled display will be required to give them an edge on this demanding and fast growing market.

Enter Corning Gorilla Glass NBT the glass solution for touch-enabled notebooksCorning Gorilla Glass NBT provides enhanced scratch resistance, reduced scratch visibility, and better retained strength once a scratch occurs to help protect notebook displays from breakage that can occur with lower-performing soda lime glass.

“Known as the cover glass of choice, Corning Gorilla Glass now extends its exceptional capabilities into the emerging touch-enabled notebook market,”

Said James R. Steiner, senior vice-president and general manager, Corning Specialty Materials.

“We are confident that Corning Gorilla Glass NBT will outperform legacy soda lime glass, delivering eight to ten times more scratch resistance. In fact, for just one to two percent of a notebook’s retail price, consumers can now get the best cover glass solution: a Gorilla solution. Simply put, we believe that if you don’t have Gorilla on your device, it’s not as good.”

Here are the advantages of using Corning Gorilla Glass NBT:

  • 8x-10x higher scratch resistance
  • Greater resistance to unsightly abrasions caused by cleaning, wiping or careless handling
  • Reduced incidence of damage when inadvertently closing the display on top of an object
  • Better ability to withstand the shock of accidental bumps

Corning Gorilla Glass NBT is currently available and is expected to be featured on several notebook product models by leading global brands later this year including the new Dell devices.
