Microsoft releases Windows 8.1 update in October

Microsoft has announced this morning that it is releasing officially the Windows 8.1 update on October 18th. The update will start rolling out as a free update for consumers on Windows 8 through the Windows Store gradually starting with New Zealand, coming to Europe and reaching the US.

After October 18th all new devices will come with the new Windows 81.1 pre-installed. Using the capabilities of the updated WIndows 8.1 we will also see several manufacturers release new 7-inch and 8-inch tablets on the market to compete with the iOS and Android devices.

Windows 8.1 update will bring a lot of new functionality to the operating system, including the much requested and missed Start Button.

For experienced users who are eager to touch and feel what the new Windows 8.1 update is all about Microsoft has already released a Windows 8.1 Preview on its site that you can download and try on your machine. With the official release of the Windows 8.1 update your machine will be updated automatically to the latest version in October.
